Spring is on the way, or at least we sure hope it is in upstate New York we are doing our very best to not slip on the ice as we bring packages from the loading dock to the trucks each day! This month's offerings feature first and foremost an outstanding collection of Master Class DVDs from a series hosted by New York University, which features some of the true jazz giants who are still with us today. Hank Jones, Barry Harris, and Benny Golson are three of the eight legends featured in these truly unique DVDs, which are outstanding as teaching tools, and also extremely enjoyable for fans of the music and careers of these men. They contain performances, interaction with students, and very interesting dialogues and monologues that must be considered vitally important living jazz history. We also recently received a brand new batch of Venus CDs from Japan and restocked many of their older titles, and the folks at Hal Leonard just published two play-alongs featuring ejazzlines' favorite vocalist, the great Mr. Sinatra. Finally, we proudly announce the release of the newest publications in the hottest new line of charts out there, our very own Jazz Lines Publications' It Happened in Monterey, The Best is Yet to Come, Street of Dreams, and What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life.

FEATURED NEW CDs:

This is a stellar month so far for Japanese-issued CDs. We just got in the new Venus titles including new releases from Harold Mabern, Eric Alexander, One for All, Eddie Higgins, Ted Rosenthal, Richie Beirach, and Ken Peplowski. Also, we have the new titles from M&I including releases from Cyrus Chestnut, Jan Lundgren, and The European Jazz Trio. Universal in Japan just launched a new budget-price series (sale price $13.48!) featuring historic titles from Barry Harris, Dodo Marmarosa, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Kenny Dorham, Oscar Pettiford, and Lee Konitz.

alt ERIC ALEXANDER: MY FAVORITE THINGS
Recorded last fall for Venus, Eric is featured here with regular associates David Hazeltine, John Webber, and Joe Farnsworth. The album has a nice mix of standards dones as ballads, medium-tempo tunes, and a rip-roaring version of Rollins' 'Airegin.'
alt ONE FOR ALL: WHAT'S GOING ON?
One for All's newest recording for Venus features jazz arrangements of well-known pop tunes including Marvin Gay's soul classic 'What's Going On,' Stevie Wonder's 'Golden Lady,' and Al Green's 'Let's Stay Together.' Alexander, Hazeltine, Rotondi, and Davis each contribute arrangements to this session.
alt EDDIE HIGGINS: YOU ARE TOO BEAUTIFUL
Well, I guess a few weeks have passed, so it must be time for more Eddie Higgins on Venus. This new date features Higgins' usual assortment of standards and co-conspirators include Jay Leonhart and Mark Taylor.
alt DODO MARMAROSA: DODO'S BACK!
Marmarosa was a bebop piano genius. After living in obscurity (due to mental illness) for most of the 1950s, Dodo resurfaced in Chicago to record this trio date for Argo. His playing is in fine form here. This is part of an inexpensive series from Japan - only $13.48!
alt EASY DOES IT: IN THE SPIRIT OF OSCAR [FEATURING ULF WAKENIUS]
The band 'Easy Does It' features guitarist Ulf Wakenius. This has been released as a tribute to late pianist Oscar Peterson. The guitarist really shines on a number of these selections, providing thought-provoking solos and impressive chops.
alt EUROPEAN JAZZ TRIO: BOLERO
The European Jazz Trio continues their jazz escapade through the standard classical repertoire. On this recording the group interprets Chopin, Faure, Saint-Saens, Bach, Gershwin, Mozart, and Ravel.
alt HAROLD MABERN: MISTY
Recorded in December 2006, this Harold Mabern solo set features very reflective playing on Thad's 'A Child Is Born' as well as boogie woogie playing on 'Harold's Boogie.'
alt CYRUS CHESTNUT: BLACK NILE
Cyrus' new release on M&I features bassist Buster Williams and drummer Al Foster. Tunes include Shorter's 'Black Nile,' Hutcherson's 'Little B's Poem,' and Ron Carter's 'Little Waltz.'
