Hello again from ejazzlines!

We congratulate the New Orleans Saints on winning that franchise's first Super Bowl, and we can only imagine with great jealousy the partying and music that will fill the Birthplace of Jazz during the next few weeks! Louis Armstrong is surely smiling down on the Crescent City, as it continues its remarkable rebirth with a celebration that is sure to make other cities' pale by comparison. ejazzlines congratulates the Saints and their fans, who make up one of this nation's most diverse, soulful, artistic, culture-filled, and truly wonderful cities.

Jazz Lines Publications' 87th chart is the recently released Marty Paich-arranged, Art Pepper version of the Bird classic, Donna Lee. We are extremely excited (yes, even more than usual) about the next series we will introduce in the month of February - the charts Oliver Nelson did for the Thelonious Monk Big Band. Never-before published, these charts will bring yet another classic session to life under the auspices of Jazz Lines Publications' growing imprint, and will make the magical music of Monk available to all of our loyal big band customers, with the added bonus of the golden arranging touch of the legendary Oliver Nelson. Please watch for the upcoming availability of these historic arrangements.

When we speak of legendary arrangers, let us take a moment to wish a very happy 86th birthday to Sammy Nestico, one of the truly magical names of 20th century American music. Sammy's charts will live on for all eternity, and we are very glad to have a warm association with this gentleman. was recently published, and chronicles his many decades of work with everyone from Count Basie to Toni Tenille. Happy birthday Sammy!

We continue to travel to faraway lands in our mission of spreading the Jazz Lines Publications name, and we had a fine visit to the Indiana Music Educators' Conference in Indianapolis in January. Our next trip will be to Fresno next week for the California Band Masters Convention at the Fresno Radisson from February 1821. We will have a booth set up there on Friday and Saturday the 19th and 20th, and as always, we warmly invite folks in that area to stop by and say hello. The organization's website is http://www.cbda.org/.

For those of you who like to keep up with new jazz releases, below are some items that you may wish to know about.

We once again thank everyone for your support - it is sincerely appreciated every day of the year!

King, among others. The forward-thinking promoters of Zaire '74 hired a talented team of documentary filmmakers to capture everything from the setup to the performances to everyday life in Kinshasa and the result is not simply a concert film featuring some of the most popular African and American musicians of the era, but also a pure cinéma vérité glimpse into a time when the musical crossover between the two nations was just beginning to emerge.
alt TOMMY IGOE: GREAT HANDS FOR A LIFETIME
This new DVD from Tommy Igoe focuses on developing and maintaining the physical tools that are essential for every drummer and drumming application: their hands. Featuring basic, intermediate and advanced levels, the Lifetime Warmup is a challenging routine that weaves its way though standard drum rudiments and original exercises while simultaneously keeping players in command of their basic drumming motions.

Solos are for the lead alto saxophone and tenor saxophone. An alternate part for the Horn in F (trombone 3) is included.
ALL OF ME: MICHAEL BUBLE
This version is the actual chart recorded by Michael Bublé on his Crazy Love album, and is itself based on Billy Byers' chart for the Count Basie Orchestra. The piano, bass and vocal lines have been written out as performed. The chart is graded as medium even though the lead trumpet has a written high F6. The 4th Trombone is bass, and the vocal key is C throughout. There are no sax doubles.
alt ANITRA'S DANCE: BILLY STRAYHORN
Here is the Billy Strayhorn arrangement of the 5th movement of Edward Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite. Solos for alto and clarinet.
