JACO PASTORIUS: TRILOGUE - LIVE IN BERLIN 1976
New DVD from the jazz bassist that provides an unusual treat for all Jaco Pastorius, Albert Mangelsdorff and Alphonse Mouzon fans. In fact, you won't find Pastorius' trademark funky playing here, nor Mangelsdorff's wild free trombone improvisations, nor Alphonse Mouzon's skittering drum work that stops and starts on a sliver of light. Conducted by Mangelsdorff and with a repertoire based mostly on the trombonist's compositions, this concert was a carefully planned project in which all three players were deeply involved.

CHET BAKER AND STAN GETZ: LIVE IN STOCKHOLM 1983
Chet Baker and Stan Getz first recorded together in 1953. They would be reunited three decades later for a world tour. The performance presented here took place during the tour's stop in Stockholm, Sweden, at the Sodra Theatern on February 18, 1983.

MILES DAVIS: TIME AFTER TIME - LIVE AT MUNICH PHILHARMONIC CONCERT HALL
Filmed live at Munich Philharmonic Concert Hall; Munich, Germany; during Munchner Klaviersommer; July 1988. This concert constitutes one of the best representations of Miles during his final decade. The music he was making three years before his passing was obviously funky, but there are also some superb ballads performed here, as well as a number of tracks from his celebrated album Tutu. This set showcases a very tight band.

This DVD is designed for the newcomer to jazz guitar. It covers the fundamentals and basic concepts essential for jazz improvisation. Hall's master class was taped in an informal setting, with conversations and performances by Hall and New York City jazz guitarist Satoshi Inoue. Brazilian Piano teaches elements of some of the most appealing Brazilian musical styles: choro, samba, and bossa nova. Besides providing audio for the examples in the book, the CD contains ensemble recordings that allow you to improvise through the middle chorus.

INTEGRATED READING TECHNIQUE
Integrated Reading Technique is more than just a collection of notes. The 155 musical passages follow a specific, step-by-step progression of developmental technique. Written with the bass guitar in hand, each example is melodic by design and reinforces shape recognition in your fingers. "Once again Jim Stinnett has produced a great book. Here he shows us a total musician's concept for learning the art of reading and understanding music. Bravo Jim!" -Bruce Gertz, Professor, Berklee College of Music

SCORPIO: MARY LOU WILLIAMS
Mary Lou Williams left Andy Kirk's band in May of 1942, and traveled with her husband, trumpeter Shorty Baker, who was a member of Duke Ellington's band. She composed and arranged quite a few pieces for Ellington, including this arrangement of Scorpio, written in 1946. Recently this arrangement has been recorded by the Dutch Jazz Orchestra and the Jazz Ambassadors on their tributes to Mary Lou Williams. We are not entirely sure why this arrangement wasn't recorded when it was written, but our guess is that it was a bit 'modern' sounding even for Duke Ellington.
Please note that this is not related to The Zodiac Suite that Mary Lou Williams had written at the same time.
|
LONELY MOMENTS: MARY LOU WILLIAMS
Similar to Scorpio, this was arranged for the Ellington band in 1946 but was not recorded. A version of this was created for Benny Goodman, who did record it. This chart features solos for tenor saxophones and trumpet.
|
THE JAZZ POLICE: VICTOR LOPEZ
Here's a very hip jazz/rock adaptation of Gordon Goodwin's "Big Phat Band" chart for developing jazz ensembles. It's true to the original style and concept, but made accessible for the real world. The driving bass and funky lines will engage the band, the audience and you. Features include written solos for alto and tenor sax, and a lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff. Optional parts are included for flute, horn in F, baritone and tuba. You know your band will be all over this chart! It's hot! Very highly recommended!
|
RHAPSODY IN BLUE: GORDON GOODWIN
This is a tour-de-force arrangement by Gordon Goodwin of Gershwin's masterpiece. If you can cut it, then play it because it will truly warrant a standing ovation. This chart has it all...the thematic material, swing, key changes, solo space for alto, tenor, bari, trumpet and trombone and lead trumpet range to written high F. Overall, a grasp of both jazz and classical concepts will make this chart stand apart from anything else. As recorded by the "Big Phat Band." Highly recommended!
