MATTHEW SHIPP: SOLOS - THE JAZZ SESSIONS

MATTHEW SHIPP: SOLOS - THE JAZZ SESSIONS

Matthew Shipp

With his unique and recognizable style, pianist Matthew Shipp worked and recorded vigorously during the 1990s, intertwining free jazz and modern classical. He first became known in the early '90s as the pianist in the David S. Ware Quartet, but soon after began leading his own dates.

Recording with musicians from the legendary Roscoe Mitchell to violinist Mat Maneri, Shipp's unswerving individual development made him the most prolific and respected voice in creative music by the decade's close.

The Jazz Sessions series spotlights unaccompanied performances by some of the legends and bright young stars of the jazz world. Designed and recorded specifically for television, this Solos DVD offers viewers front row seats for an intimate and unique jazz experience.

Each program features complete musical pieces, insightful interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage. Shot in stunning HDTV with multiple moving cameras and a medley of elegant cinematic lighting, it showcases an exciting and dynamic variety of jazz styles – from the blues and boogie-woogie to bebop and the experimental.
