(9 Brass) This Jim McNeely composition was written for Dave Liebman and the West German Radio Big Band. This piece created quite a stir at the IAJE convention in Miami (with the Miami University Jazz Ensemble). The tempo and groove continually shift between a slow funk, medium Latin, and medium swing feel. The solo soprano part is in addition to the regular 5-part sax section, and employs the kind of modern chromatic harmony associated with Dave. This chart is more difficult for its harmonic and rhythmic conception than for its notes.
