#358 BUS

ARRANGED BY DAVID JONES

This is a light-hearted, hard-swinging tribute to a couple of my favorite tunes. The A section fits a new, original, chromatic melody on to "A Train" changes. The bridge introduces a contrasting riff-based motive over the first five chords of "Giant Steps" (only one chord per bar, though .. don't wanna get too nuts.) It flies! (It is not beyond a good high school band, however.) After one melody chorus, there is open space for solos (changes are in all parts.) The final solo (trumpet) comes with 2 choruses of backgrounds. Lots of inventive and fun quoting here is meant to suggest a great head arrangement. The trumpet solo leads into 4-bar trades with the drums. After an organic shout chorus it heads home. This tune is not that hard, uses NO doublings, and has reasonable brass ranges (lead trpt. has a couple of brief "D's", well prepared.) It would be a great festival chart (every section gets a workout and flexible solos) or concert closer. Medium difficult.
