July 2007

Hello again from ejazzlines!

We hope all of you in the Northern Hemisphere are enjoying your summer and those south of the equator are experiencing the welcome relief of winter. As the temperature rises here in New York, we'd like to remind you to wear sunscreen, drink plenty of liquids, and remain cool. We can't help you with the sunscreen or the beverages; with the coolness we can. Here are some of the many highlights we have in July's cool new releases.

This month we have several interesting new DVDs to mention. There have been 2 more releases in the successful 'New Morning Concert' DVD series: Bob Berg Live and Randy Brecker Live. The first one features late tenor great Bob Berg with Niels Lan Doky, Alvin Queen and bassist Pierre Boussaguet. Trumpeter Randy Brecker is featured live with the same group. We would also like to suggest a new Billy Cobham DVD: Live at 60. This footage is from a 60th birthday party held in Paris. Musicians include: Wilbert Gill, Marcus Ubeda, Stefan Rademacher, and Per Gade. Buddy Childers and Jack Nimitz are featured Live at the Royal Palms Inn filmed in 1993. This DVD features these two legends performing a nice collection of standards. Please also take a look at Jojo Mayer's Secret Weapons for the Modern Drummer and volume 3 of Ernie Hawkins' series C-A-G-E-D Guitar System Made Easy.

Our July book section boasts a number of great new additions including a brand new Charles Mingus Play-Along featuring many classic tunes, some of which are not readily available in other sources. Continuing on the Play-Along front, Feelin' Good was also recently released. This play-along features 14 tunes in an organ-trio format. Complete Django is a new songbook, in which all 81 themes and melodies by Django Reinhardt appear in a single collection written in notation and tablature with diagrams of the exact chord voicings played by Django. Rounding out the collection we have a new book on expanding your trumpet technique: Trumpetology, a new chop-builder book: Uncommon Etudes for Common Scales, Gershwin Transcriptions for Piano featuring actual impromptu arrangements, and additional play-alongs: Miles of Modes and Classic Jazz Ballads.

New CDs of interest include sessions led by Hank Jones, Lucky Thompson, Jimmy Cobb, and Steve Kuhn. Recently released by Venus, there is a fabulous new Steve Kuhn CD called Steve Kuhn Plays Standards, and not surprisingly, play them he does. This 24-bit new recording features Steve, Buster Williams, and Al Foster on 12 standards. Continuing with piano players, Pony Canyon in Japan has just released the first volume of the 1988 recording by the Hank Jones-led Great Jazz Trio, Great Hits of Standards, Vol. 1 with Billy Hart and Mads Vinding. They will be releasing volume 2 later this month and volume 3 in August. Previously unavailable on CD is another great session led by Pete Rugolo called Exploring New Sounds and featuring the usual suspects: Conte Candoli, Don Fagerquist, Andre Previn, Frank Rosolino, and others. Fresh Sound has also released a Lucky Thompson date from 1965 initially released on LP by Rivoli, Lucky Is Back. This date has Tommy Flanagan, Willie Ruff, and Walter Perkins. Drum legend Jimmy Cobb recently went into the studio with Roy Hargrove, Ronnie Mathews, and Peter Washington and the result was Cobb's Corner. This fine date has the classic hard-bop sound and everyone is in prime form. Finally, Criss Cross has released 4 new CDs: Joel Weiskopf's Devoted to You, Victor Goines' Love Dance, Adonis Rose's On the Verge, and Alex Sipiagin's Prints.

In our tireless international effort to present all that is new and interesting, as of this newsletter we have added 102 new CDs for the month of July 2007 and 126 for the month of June 2007; 19 new DVDs for July 2007 and 30 for June 2007; 49 new music books for July 2007 and 71 for June 2007; 13 new big band and combo arrangements for the month of July 2007 and 117 for the month of June 2007.

If you haven't visited our our Imports and Rarities section lately, please check it out. We are now stocking more and more obscure, rare, and hard-to-find titles from Japan and Europe, including many titles that you may not be able to find elsewhere.

In our DVD section, we now carry well over 1,400 jazz DVDs!

As always, please keep in mind that many of our new releases are available in limited quantities. We do our best to predict demand and fill orders as quickly as possible, but we do run out of new releases. Even if we run out of stock, everything featured in this newsletter should be available to ship within 3 weeks.

We thank you all again very sincerely for your continued support, and we hope everyone has a wonderful summer!
