March 2007

Hello again from ejazzlines!

We greet all of you once again with our March newsletter. We send our warmest regards and gratitude to all of you who we saw at IAJE in NYC January and the MLA/SAM Conference in Pittsburgh last week, who helped make an especially cold winter that much more plentiful and rewarding. We are back to greet the (hopefully soon!) arrival of spring with another round of new and interesting items from across the jazz universe. We are proud to announce that we are now stocking a variety of classic View Video releases, many of which are now available on DVD, including releases by Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, The Modern Jazz Quartet, Dizzy Gillespie, Mel Lewis, Benny Golson, and a lot more. Other new DVDs include releases featuring Chick Corea and Sidney Bechet, among others. We have a fine selection of new theory and music books, featuring the just-published B flat and E flat editions of Hal Leonards Volume 3 of their fantastic (and completely legal!) Real Books, which we encourage you to check out. We also have many hard-to-find Venus CDs from Japan in stock.

In our ceasless effort to present all that is new and interesting, as of this newsletter we have added 109 new CDs for the month of March 2007 and 168 for the month of February 2007; 22 new DVDs for March 2007 and 26 for February 2007; 28 new music books for March 2007 and 62 for February 2007; 24 new big band and combo arrangements for the months of March 2007 and 74 for the month of February 2007.

We maintain a special and regularly updated section on our site dedicated to the imports and hard to find CDs that we stock. You may want to bookmark our Imports and Rarities section. You can find this link on the top of our homepage and left-hand margin of each page. These pages don't list everything we have in stock, but present a healthy selection of titles that you may not already be familiar with.

In our DVD section, we now carry more than 1,300 jazz DVDs!

As always, please keep in mind that many of our new releases are available in limited quantities. We do our best to predict demand and fill orders as quickly as possible, but we do run out of new releases. Even if we run out of stock, everything featured in this newsletter should be available to ship within 3 weeks. If you need something before a particular date for the holidays, please email us ahead of time to ensure availability.

We thank you all again very sincerely for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Music Library Conference in sunny Pittsburgh in 2 weeks!

alt SIDNEY BECHET: TREAT IT GENTLE
Sidney Bechet's life was like his playing, passionate, robust and competitive. The first jazz soprano saxophonist, Bechet's reputation was such that, when he died in 1959, three thousand mourners attended his funeral in Juan-les-Pins. He composed and recorded many classic songs with artists including Clarence Williams, Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington and can be credited, among the many young turks of New Orleans, with inventing jazz. This programme takes us on a journey from Bechet's birthplace near Storyville, New Orleans, to New York, London and Paris where he found stardom. Interviewees include friends, family and fellow musicians including Bob Wilber, who trained under Bechet, Wynton Marsalis, Humphrey Lyttelton, Michael White, Woody Allen and Claude Luter.
