Happy New Year and hello again from ejazzlines!

2009 is here and ejazzlines wishes a Happy New Year to all! We thank you again for making our holiday season so very bright. We hope everyone had a wonderful December, and we hope the snow-related travel nightmares were not too horrific for too many of you. We are back, we have upstate New York all shoveled out, and we are eager to help get the new year started off right, which we hope to do with quite a few of 2009's first items. We will have many more over the course of the month, so please check these pages frequently. We are also still making our clearance pages available, with many items hugely discounted, some becoming unavailable after the last copy sells.

Jazz Lines Publications is excited and proud to announce the release of our very newest exclusives, bringing our total to a library of 33 charts. Can't We Be Friends as performed by Sammy Davis, Jr., and New Girl as arranged by Duke Pearson have recently joined the Jazz Lines family of classics. We will be publishing all of Duke Pearson's arrangements directly from the original manuscripts - these are not transcriptions! 2009 will continue to see this line of charts grow towards maturity and its place alongside other leading charts which we offer.

January's items include a brand new David Liebman transcription book, another work breaking down the styles of the Oscar Peterson Trio, new play-alongs featuring the work of Steely Dan and also Slo' Jazz, and several other play-alongs for various instruments and styles. Our newest current DVDs focus on the educational, with the spotlight on guitar. We have a new David Bromberg DVD, as well as others varying from bluesman John Jackson to rockers Angus Young and Slash.

ejazzlines is back to our normal Monday-Friday schedule, and we sincerely thank those of you who were wonderfully patient during our holiday closings. We appreciate very sincerely all of you who placed orders during the holidays, and we also wish to express our gratitude for all of your patience as we took a shade longer than usual to communicate and get packages on their way. As always, we tried our best, and as always, we could not have done it without you. Thank you again for making 2008 ejazzlines' best year yet, and we are already working very hard to ensure that 2009 also sets new highs in numbers of quality products offered and customers made very happy.

    New DVDs:
January's newest DVDs feature a look at David Bromberg and his unique guitar artistry. We also have a video collection of the blues of John Jackson. Our effort to make the entire outstanding Lick Library of DVDs available continues, with the newest releases from Angus Young, Slash, and Ritchie Blackmore, sure to make your jazz just a bit more heavy! We also again point out some of December's best and most interesting, including Gypsy Jazz Odyssey, Sophie Milman Live in Montreal, Easy Steps to Bossa Nova Guitar, and Sam and Dave: The Original Soul Men. More DVDs will be added each week in January as the new year's releases become available.

    New CDs:
The first CD we want to mention is from the unstoppable Hank Jones, who, at this point, has trivialized the Energizer Bunny. His newest, with the Great Jazz Trio, is titled Blue Minor and features George Mraz and Billy Kilson. In typical fashion, Hank runs through 10 standards including Misty, Nica's Dream, I Got Rhtyhm, and My Ideal. Well, we can't stop with just one Hank Jones recommendation - there is also the reissue of Good Life recorded in 1980 with Sonny Stitt, George Duvivier, and Grady Tate. Staying with pianists, we have another reissue from Japan, this one by Roland Hanna titled Glove. This date featured George Mraz and Motohiko Hino. From guitarist Ulf Wakenius comes Love Is Real, a 2008 recording dedicated to late pianist Esbjorn Svensson. Ulf is joined by fellow Swedes Lards Danielsson, Lars Jansson, and Morten Lund. Fresh in from Denmark are several new SteepleChase releases including Eric Rasmussen's School of Tristano 3, Bill Gerhardt's All That I Have, and Jam Session volumes 27 and 28. Also from Japan are several new historic Blue Note and Verve releases including titles from Curtis Fuller, Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner, Big John Patton, Horace Parlan, and many more - check it out!

    New Books:
January's best and brightest new releases start with Jamey Aebersold's latest, David Liebman Transcriptions. This great new book features some of David's favorites, as well as more of his invaluable advice for musicians of all levels and styles. Oscar Peterson Classic Trio Performances is the newest from Hal Leonard, and showcases the trio stylings of one of the greatest pianists of all-time. We also have new play-alongs featuring the music of Steely Dan, and Slo' Jazz, as well as a new Cole Porter piano duet play-along. The new Barney Kessel biography, a Rat Pack Hits book for male vocals, a new Flamenco/Classical Guitar book, and several others round out the freshest items of 2009. Later in January we will have the two very newest from our friend Chuck Sher, The Jazz Singer's Guidebook, and The Real Easy Ear Training Book. We will have these available as soon as Chuck lets us know they are ready for shipping.

    New Big Band Arrangements:
Over the next year we will publishing all of Duke Pearson's big band arrangements - from the original manuscripts. The first in the series is New Girl from 'Introducing the Duke Pearson Big Band.' This is a great trumpet and tenor saxophone feature. We also just published Marty Paich's arrangement of Can't We Be Friends as recorded by Sammy Davis, Jr. This is a simple, but swinging male vocal chart that features solos for alto 2 and trumpet 2 - both solos have been written out as-played. We also have Any Old Time as recorded by Billie Holiday with Artie Shaw; Shoo Shoo Baby as recorded by the Andrews Sisters; and Star Dust as recorded by Glenn Miller.
