Hello again from ejazzlines!
Spring is here, or at least we believe it must be, as the ejazzlines office is once again abuzz with another year of fresh hopes for the New York Mets! In any event, we do have some great new items
guaranteed to warm any climate, whether populated by fans of the Red Sox, Yankees, Lakers, Yomiuri Giants, Manchester United, or Real Madrid. We have a brand new live DVD from the great
Wynton Marsalis,
with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. We also have a new one by Anita O'Day, filmed live in Tokyo in 1963,
when Anita was at one of the peaks of her long career. We are also proud to announce Dave Stryker's
first DVD, with his organ trio, filmed in Louisville about a year ago. The DVD releases of the late Emily Remler's two Hot Licks lessons have been long-awaited, and are here at last.
We also have a very interesting new documentary on Jazz In Europe,
and quite a few brand new guitar education DVDs in this month's listings. Two new drum books from Mel Bay lead off March's book releases, one called the Drummer's Workbook, co-authored
by the great Danny Gottlieb. Inside the Big Band Drum Chart is a book/DVD/MP3 combo package that aspires to educate on all aspects of big band drumming.
Hal Leonard's very newest is Torch Songs, a fantastic collection of
tunes in a vocal play-along style. Alfred has just released a collection of Cole Porter classics for advanced pianists.
Our good friends at Jamey Aebersold just let us know about two new independently published works, Double Vision Duets for Electric Bass
and Solo Guitar Etudes and Duets.
Finally, we enthusiastically announce the release of the three most recent publications in the hottest new line of charts out there, our very own Jazz Lines Publications'
arrangements of Frank Sinatra's Too Marvelous For Words,
Helen O'Connell's Get Happy (arranged by Sammy Nestico), and Helen Forrest's I Cried For You (with Harry James),
which we are very pleased to add to our home-grown and ever-growing catalog of charts.
We feel called upon to again mention an outstanding collection of Jazz Master Class DVDs from a series hosted by New York University,
which feature some of the true jazz giants who are still with us today. Hank Jones, Barry Harris, and Benny Golson are three of the eight legends featured in these truly unique DVDs, which are outstanding as teaching tools,
and also extremely enjoyable for fans of the music and careers of these men. They contain performances, interaction with students, and very interesting dialogues and monologues that must be considered vitally important living
jazz history. We strongly encourage fans of these gentlemen to check out these unique, outstanding and hard-to-find items.
