Hello again from ejazzlines! As the temperature continues to fall here in upstate NY, we are reminded of the rapid approach of the holiday season. We thank those of you who have already purchased so many holiday-themed arrangements, and, as always, we have a wonderful catalog of holiday charts for many styles and levels; vocals and instrumentals; from our own Jazz Lines Publications and all of the other publishers we work with. Please check out our selection, which is constantly growing and is truly second to none: Holiday Arrangements.

Jazz Lines Publications now proudly has 143 charts in print, with many more in the works. As promised, we have several more classics from the legendary Charlie Parker With Strings sessions now available. Laura, Summertime, Repetition, and What is This Thins Called Love have all been edited from the original scores and parts by Jeffrey Sultanof and are ready for your band's library.

Today marks the 79th birthday of one of jazz's all-time great alto sax players, the legendary Phil Woods. Phil has been actively playing since the late 1940s, and his career is largely a history of the last 60+ years of American music. He has played with small groups and big bands, led and been a sideman, played everything from bop to rock, from movie themes to a recent tribute to Winnie the Pooh, has lived in Europe, recorded on many labels large and small, been an educator deeply concerned with the teaching of jazz, and has toured the world for decades. For those of us who started with rock and later moved on up to jazz, we still remember Phil's beautiful solo on Billy Joel's 'Just The Way You Are.' But his solo on Steely Dan's 'Doctor Wu' gives aspiring pop music saxophonists one of the very best examples of how to play in a rock context. The way he finishes his solo and sets up Donald Fagen to come in for the next verse is absolutely classic. Today we salute Mr. Woods, a true giant of jazz, and a living repository of the beauty that this music gives so many of us every day.

We once again thank everyone for your support - it is sincerely appreciated every day of the year!
