Hello again from ejazzlines!

As summer fades its way into fall, we welcome back-to-school season with a great selection of new arrangements, headlined by the newly available series by Doc Severinsen's Tonight Show Band. We have two new Hal Leonard books featuring Michael Buble's creative treatments of classics from the last 50 years. The DVDs are topped off by Series 2 of the extremely popular and instant classic Jazz Icons series and the first-ever DVD release of Wynton Marsalis' classic educational videos, Marsalis on Music. This DVD set is the complete series, and along with the new Jazz Icons, we are proud to present some phenomenal stocking stuffers early this year! We also encourage everyone in range of New York City to look into attending the first Jazz Improv Convention at the New Yorker Hotel on October 25-28.

In addition, you may complete purchase orders directly on our website without the need of a credit card. For more information about our educational program, please email or phone us.

NEW DVDs:
Well, we are especially excited to announce the arrival of Series 2 of the incredible JAZZ ICONS DVD SERIES! For those of you who purchased any of the DVDs in Series 1, these new releases require no introduction. This series features classic performances from some of the greatest legends of the past 50 years, captured in their prime in various locations from the 1950s through the 1970s. The DVDs are transferred from the original masters, and each DVD features a 24-page booklet with an essay written by an authoritative jazz historian as well as rare and unseen photos. Series 2 features classic performances by John Coltrane: Live in Germany and Belgium; Dave Brubeck: Live in Belgium and Germany; Duke Ellington: Live in Holland; Dexter Gordon: Live in Holland, Switzerland, and Belgium; Charles Mingus: Live in Belgium, Norway, and Sweden; Sarah Vaughan: Live in Sweden and Holland; and Wes Montgomery: Live in Holland, Belgium, and England.

There is also a new DVD on the life and legacy of Les Paul, and another release of some vintage performances coupled with a portrait of Norman Granz in Improvisation (previously available from Japan). The DVDs are complimented nicely by the release of Wynton's 4 classic educational videos, Marsalis on Music. This DVD set is excellent for educators and all fans of music alike.

NEW BIG BAND ARRANGEMENTS:
If you've had a chance to visit our site lately you'll see how serious we are about our big band arrangement selection. We are constantly bringing in new arrangements from publishers as well as signing on new arrangers to build our catalog of independent charts. This month we're featuring some great new vocal arrangements. We're pleased to present Frank Sinatra's recording of the Billy May chart Day In, Day Out. We also have coming in a rare Kenton chart that was recorded along with June Christy: It's Been a Long, Long Time. We have personally been collaborating with a publisher to release a series of famous Helen O'Connell charts, most of which were arranged by Marion Evans. Titles include When the Sun Comes Out, Amapola, Green Eyes, Time Was, Come Rain or Come Shine, Brazil, and Saturday Night Is the Loneliest Night of the Week. Watch for many more titles in this series in the coming months.

NEW CDs:
This week we're getting in some nice releases from Japan including the 3rd installment in the Great Jazz Trio series Greatest Hits of Standards, this one titled My Funny Valentine. We'll also have George Garzone's newest release on Venus Night of the Beloved with Trio da Paz. On the same note, Harry Allen also just recorded a date with Trio da Paz aptly titled Harry Allen Meets Trio da Paz, this just released on the Camerata label in Japan. Rounding out the newest releases from Japan is Ron Carter's It's the Time with Mulgrew Miller and Russell Malone; Junior Mance's The Shadow of Your Smile; and Jo Jones with Harry Sweets Edison. From Europe we recently received the newest releases in the SteepleChase Jam Session series: the trombone manic Jam Session Vol. 23 (featuring Wycliffe Gordon, Conrad Herwig, and Vincent Gardner) and Volume 24 (featuring Jon Gordon, Rich Perry, and Dave Schnitter). Also from Denmark comes Horace Parlan's newly released tribute to Billy Strayhorn, My Little Brown Book. Finally, on the topic of noteworthy U.S. releases, we need to report on a brand new series celebrating previously unreleased historic recordings from the archives of the Monterey Jazz Festival. Artists featured include Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughan, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, and Louis Armstrong.

NEW BOOKS AND PLAY-ALONGS:
There is a new book dedicated to improvisation written by Antonio Garcia titled Cutting the Changes: Jazz Improvisation via Key Centers. Garcia takes 13 well-known standards and details the basics of jazz improvisation and gets even the jazz beginner improvising logical and memorable solos. Ed Saindon has written Exploration in Rhythm, a book that will help the user develop and expand their rhythmic palette and vocabulary. Working on these concepts, players will begin to hear rhythms that float over the barline as well as develop the ability to execute phrases over longer periods of time. Trumpet fans will be delighted to learn that a new Dizzy Gillespie book has been released: Dizzy Gillespie Trumpet Signature Licks. Famed singer Michael Buble has two new volumes out: a matching folio to his 2007 release Call Me Irresponsible and Michael Buble Pro Vocal Series. This book/CD sing-a-long package puts you right there in the band! And, looking ahead to holiday time, we just got in Christmas Carols, a new jazz Christmas play-along. It's never too early to start preparing for the holidays...
