Hello again from ejazzlines!

Happy November to all! As the holidays continue their rapid approach, we are glad to present a great number of seasonal items, from new play alongs to one of the best selections of holiday charts available anywhere. We will also be stocking the Jazz Icons DVDs, both series 1 and 2, and we could not recommend these DVDs more highly as gifts - all 16 are available separately or in the two beautiful boxed sets.

We thank everyone who helped to make the first annual Jazz Improv Convention a success. New York City is truly one of the planet's most vibrant jazz environments, and here's hoping that this event can become a yearly gathering in the Big Apple. Next year's should also be the last week/weekend of October, so start planning now!

NEW DVDs:
November's offerings are proudly led off by the brand new DVD release of the classic Benny Carter film, Symphony in Riffs. This is a wonderfully reviewed portrait of one of jazz's true all-time giants. We also have a new documentary on one of the greatest of all jazz guitarists, Django Reinhardt, titled King of the Jazz Guitar. There is a new live DVD of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, featuring two performances a decade apart. Alfred has just released several Drum Workshop DVDs, and for fans of the blues and R&B we have new live DVDs from Ray Charles and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Finally, Al DiMeola has just released a new live DVD as well.

NEW CDs:
Harry Allen fans have already taken notice and bought most of the copies of Down for the Count that we had come in from Japan. This tribute to Count Basie is yet another fine set from swing tenor master Allen. Apparently, we're not the only ones just wild about Harry. Segue to entirely different saxophonist...David Liebman has a new live recording out on Verve titled Dream of Nite. This was recorded live in 2005 and features an outstanding Italian rhythm section. Harvie S has a new CD on Zoho titled Funky Cha. The Latin bass master and composer puts forth another fine effort shedding new light on familiar tunes as well as presenting some fine original music. Absord in Japan has released a 1960 Everest recording featuring Gene Ammons and Howard McGhee titled Heavy Sax. We also just got in a 2005 recording of the group known as NY4. Their new release is Sweet and Lovely. NY4 is actually Bucky Pizzarelli, John Bunch, Jay Leonhart, and Warren Vache. And lastly, we have some new LP sleeves from Sonny Stitt (At the D.J. Lounge, Inter-Action, and Mr. Bojangles) and Buddy Rich (Playtime).

NEW BOOKS AND PLAY-ALONGS:
With December approaching, we are very happy to offer a brand new series of play alongs focused on holiday classics. There are 11 editions available. We also are featuring Sittin in With the Big Band, another new big band play along series with 8 editions available. Jamey Aebersold has just published Saxophone Secrets, the newest in their budget-priced Pocket Book series - considering who publishes it and the price, this is sure to be one of the best deals of the season!

We also want to point out a great new book for alto and tenor saxophone players, Greg Fishman's Jazz Saxophone Etudes Volume 2. This book comes highly recommended, and in light of the popularity of Volume 1 (also available) we expect this to be a very welcome edition to our educational saxophone offerings.

NEW BIG BAND ARRANGEMENTS:
We are pleased to announce the publication of OUR first big band arrangement Star Eyes. This chart was arranged by Hal Mooney and performed by Helen O'Connell in the 1970s. We are still working on an adaptation of her 1953 recording of this same song that featured strings. The next couple of arrangements that we'll have available are Neal Hefti's 'I Won't Dance' (as recorded by Frank Sinatra on the 1962 record 'Sinatra/Basie'), 'Who Cares' (arranged by Marion Evans, as recorded by Helen O'Connell on her 1953 recording 'Green Eyes'), and 'How About You' (adapted from the Nelson Riddle arrangement recorded by Frank Sinatra on 'Songs for Swingin' Lovers'). These should be available in the next month so watch out for them.

Some other new arrangements to consider include Snowfall as recorded by Claude Thornhill, a professional level arrangement of the theme to The Simpsons done by Les Hooper, and the John Clayton arrangement of the Genesis tune That's All as recorded by the Phil Collins Big Band.

As you get the music together for your winter concerts, we would like to offer a selection of our best-selling Christmas/holiday big band arrangements: Santa Baby (as recorded by Eartha Kitt); Home for the Holidays (male/female duet); Here Comes Santa Claus/Santa Claus Is Coming to Town (as recorded by Linda Eder); Jingle Bells (as recorded by the Andrews Sisters); Baby, It's Cold Outside (as recorded by Margaret Whiting and Johnny Mercer); O Holy Night (as recorded by Stan Kenton); You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch; and Christmas Time Is Here. Please see the Holiday Section of our site for a complete list of titles.
