Hello again from ejazzlines!
We just wanted to take a minute to say hello again and to alert everyone to some hot new items we have received since our last newsletter earlier in March.
For the many Eric Alexander fans out there, High Note has just released a DVD/CD 2 disc set of Eric's Quartet, Prime Time in Concert.
The early reviews are very positive, and this should be a fantastic addition to Eric's growing discography. A classic program which has been out of print for a while was
finally released on DVD as well - a documentary on the most important jazz label, Blue Note: A Story of Modern Jazz.
This DVD features the story of the label, with appearances by many of the huge array of jazz greats who have called Blue Note home. The seemingly bottomless and wonderful vault of
Norman Granz's legacy has yielded another fine DVD, a 2 disc set featuring Duke Ellington in concert with Ella Fitzgerald,
as well as a late Duke jam session with Joe Pass, Ray Brown and Louis Bellson. The folks at Hot Licks continue to re-release their outstanding educational sessions on DVD,
and the very newest is Larry Coryell's Advanced Jazz Guitar,
which we recommend along with their other new releases of earlier this month, both of the late Emily Remler's lessons.
Al DiMeola has a brand new live DVD, and Steve Gadd has a new master class DVD available as well.
Finally, we also remind everyone of the new DVDs from earlier this month by Anita O'Day,
Wynton Marsalis, Dave Stryker,
Susie Arioli,
and for you blues fans out there, there is also a new one from Albert Collins in Montreux.
March has definitely been one of our best DVD months in a while.
Our very good friends at Kendor Music have just released two new books, Classic Beginning Solos for the Complete Percussionist and Warm-Up Studies for Percussionists.
Based on the consistently high quality of everything Kendor offers, we imagine that these books will be excellent additions to every percussionist's library.
Hal Leonard has just released a few more new books, which continue to show their commitment to having a very well-rounded and eclectic commitment to jazz:
a new Best of Chris Botti book,
a Jimi Hendrix jazz play-along,
and Advanced Vocal Technique,
which should help singers of jazz and all styles. Advance Music has just released Javier Zalba's Flute Soneando,
a new work dedicated to flute in Cuban music, and a book we featured earlier in March, Mel Bay's Inside the Big Band Drum Chart,
has been very popular so far and is receiving fantastic reviews.
We also proudly announce the release of our newest arrangements, Jazz Lines Publications' salute to Glenn Miller, Indian Summer. This vocal chart originally featured Ray Eberle.
We also now have available an adaptation of Nelson Riddle's Love Is Here to Stay from the Frank Sinatra classic record 'Songs for Swingin' Lovers.' And, finally,
we have published a classic Billy May arrangement When Your Lover Has Gone from Nat King Cole's 1957 album 'Just One of Those Things.' We are very pleased to continue to add to our home-grown and ever-growing catalog of charts.
On the CD side, we have several new releases to mention. Criss Cross has just released another 4 recordings including: John Swana's Bright Moments featuring Eric Alexander and David Hazeltine; Gary Versace's Outside In featuring guitarist Adam Rogers; and
Walt Weiskopf's Day In Night Out. We also just received two Blue Mitchell reissues from Japan: Graffiti Blues and
Last Tango: Blues, both recorded in 1974 for Mainstream Records. And, lastly, in addition to the Eric Alexander mentioned above, High Note has also released a great new recording by pianist George Cables entitled
Morning Song that features trumpeter Eddie Henderson.
We once again would like to mention our distribution of Artists House's Jazz Master Class DVDs
from a series hosted by New York University. Every purchase of these DVDs will contribute some much-needed funding to jazz educational programs in our area of upstate New York including aplaceforjazz.org.
We also have recently made the entire series available at a discounted price. These programs feature some of the true jazz giants who are still with us today. Hank Jones, Phil Woods, and Clark Terry
are three of the eight legends featured in these truly unique DVDs, which are outstanding as teaching tools, and also extremely enjoyable for fans of the music and careers of these men. They contain performances, interaction with students, and very interesting dialogues and monologues that must be considered vitally important living jazz history. We strongly encourage fans of these gentlemen to check out these unique, outstanding and hard-to-find items.
In our tireless and globetrotting effort to present all that is new and interesting, as of this newsletter we have added a total of
