Edition: JAZZ BIG BAND ARRANGEMENT

Description: SWING - MEDIUM This is a medium-up swing tune featuring improvised solos for baritone saxophone and trumpet. Composed by trumpeter Paul Tynan and arranged by Aaron Lington, "Pepper Aarons" attempts to fuse the melodic style of Pepper Adams within a modern harmonic framework. A catchy melody underscored by a deceptive chord progression is played by baritone saxophone, trumpet and guitar. The head is followed by a saxophone soli and a trombone soli which leads into solo space for baritone saxophone and trumpet. After the soloists, the ensemble plays an exciting shout section followed by a brief recap of the melody. This composition was one of the winning compositions in the 2007 San jose Jazz Society's Composers Competition. Aaron Lington was commissioned by the San Jose Jazz Society to write this arrangement. No doubles are required of the saxophones. Top note for lead trumpet is a written high C, and top note for lead trombone is a written high C. AATTB, 4 trpts, 4 bones, G, P, B, D. Medium.
