From recording studios and jazz clubs in Chicago to the ultimate stage for gypsy jazz players to the Django Reinhardt Festival in Samois-sur-Seine, France, Alfonso and a variety of musicians from many different countries bring the history and background of this rich and spirited music to life. Packed with swinging performances shot in both the US and France, Gypsy Jazz Odyssey offers a truly informative and exciting multi-cultural musical experience. Recorded in 2007, this DVD runs 75 minutes.

Alfonso Ponticelli and Swing Gitan are Chicago's premier gypsy jazz band. The group plays the 1930s style of music of guitarist Django Reinhardt, foot-tapping swing played on acoustic instruments. It's a blend of the jubilant swing of early jazz with the feisty passion of gypsy music, plus a strong dose of guitar pyrotechnics and virtuosic improvisation. Formed in 2001, Swing Gitan features bandleader Alfonso Ponticelli on lead guitar, and a world-class lineup of musicians on violin, rhythm guitar, accordion and double bass. Over the years they have played with many of the great contemporary gypsy jazz players from around the world, including Bireli Lagrene, Stochelo Rosenberg, Moreno, Angelo DeBarre and the Robin Nolan Trio. The band has enjoyed a Wednesday residency at Chicago's famed Green Mill Lounge going on now three years.
