A MINOR THING ­ by Joe Riposo is a beginning jazz ensemble piece. Riposo draws on is experiences when he taught a middle school jazz ensemble to write this piece to sound harmonically interesting but play easy.

This composition gives the director the opportunity to teach for line direction, harmonic balance, jazz phrasing, etc. There are no improvisational solos in this piece but there are sections in this arrangement that can be opened to allow any student this experience. One can use the first four measures for a two chord improvised solo. (Fm7 ­ Cm7)

This is a fun piece to play with lots of audience appeal.
