Edition: Jazz Studio Orchestra Arrangement with Male Vocal and Choir [SATB]

Description: Ballad - Medium

Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications

There are few voices in the history of modern popular music more suited to perform Christmas songs than the rich, resonant baritone of Bing Crosby. Bing recorded this traditional Christmas favorite in 1942 with John Scott Trotter's Orchestra accompanied by Max Terr's Mixed Chorus. He would go on to perform this arrangement several more times over the years on the radio.

This arrangement begins with a majestic fanfare with brass leading the way. The vocalist enters with the Latin version of the lyrics with the clarinets and violin providing the accompaniment with brass in cup mutes. For the English version (O Come All Ye Faithful) the arrangement grows slightly in volume as the brass remove their mutes. A brief four measure instrumental interlude sets up the entrance of the vocal choir (SATB). The melody and lyrics are included in the solo male vocal line so that this arrangement may be played without the choir. Note that the soprano voice is primarily improvising throughout this section; however, what she sang has been transcribed for this publication. The arrangement concludes with the solo vocalist re-entering with the choir and full ensemble supporting.

This publication was based on John Scott Trotter's original pencil score and the set of parts used during the recording session. However, the vocal choir parts were missing and have been transcribed.
