Don't be scared by the title! Although Tom Kubis' "Atypical Blues" does follow an altered harmonic and form structure than a standard blues, it's not such a radical change that it will scare away any listeners. The trombones handle the melody for the most part, minus a key change for the first half of the melody's second statement, which is handled by the trumpets. The shout chorus likewise begins with just trombones before everyone else comes in. Solo changes are included for trombones 1 and 2.
