OCTOBER NOTES: (October 22nd Update) Brand new is On the Trail, another Glenn Miller Orchestra release from our Jazz Lines Publications, this one as arranged by Buddy DeFranco. While serving as the musical director for the Miller band, clarinetist DeFranco was not afraid to bring some modernist touches to the their classic sound. This arrangement (from the 1972 album Yesterdays) does just that, maintaining a tasty balance of new and old throughout. There is an optional cut section in this arrangement that removes most of the solos. We have included a note where this occurs in the score and parts if you choose to include this cut in your performance. This publication was prepared from the original set of parts - this is not a transcription.
We also offer our newest Jazz Lines Publications historic release, Peggy Lee's What a Little Moonlight Can Do, as arranged by Nelson Riddle. Lee's sultry vocals and Riddle's edgy, yet warm, arranging style were a perfect fit for one another. This collaboration (from the 1958 Capitol album Jump for Joy) serves as a definitive sample of this, with voice and ensemble working in perfect concert throughout. Thanks to an agreement with Peggy Lee Associates, LLC this publication was prepared from the original set of parts used for the 1958 recording session - this is not a transcription.
Also brand new is the latest in our Dave Wolpe Archive Editions Series, his take on Amazing Grace for big band, and Who's Sorry Now? for three group sizes. (Please see September New Relases for the first few of these). We have also just released Stars and Stripes Forever and You Made Me Love You.
We are very pleased to be expanding our Florian Ross Series with several more from this gifted writer. We introduce Merry Christmas Everywhere, a modern take on the beloved 19th-century Christmas carol. This chart is ideal for advanced collegiate jazz ensembles and offers an "off the beaten track" European Christmas carol for jazz orchestra. We also have his Bye, Bye Blackbird, a modern take on the beloved song by Ray Henderson.
Another brand new chart this month is one from Rich DeRosa. This arrangement was commissioned by Delfeayo Marsalis for his Uptown Jazz Orchestra. It was recorded in 2024 for the band's CD, Crescent City Jewels. Branford Marsalis is the featured tenor saxophone soloist on this famous composition by Joe Henderson. The arrangement features new compositional material beyond the original form of Henderson’s tune, and provides a difficult, challenging take on one of hard bop's greatest composers' versatile, forward-looking style.
We finally have one of the most popular specially-priced multi-chart sets in our history available in PDF download form: The Art Pepper +11 Complete Set of Seven Arrangements. Arranged by Marty Paich for one of the foremost proponents of West Coast Jazz, these are some of the greatest charts for little big band; the set is a little over 10% off of retail.
Please click here for September New Release Pages which included our most recent Jazz Lines Publications chart, I've Got a Feeling I'm Falling, as written by Marty Paich for the Dave Pell Octet, as well as the first three releases in our new Dave Wolpe Archive Editions Series and three more from Whitewater Music's Taylor Donaldson. We also have the usual nice batch of brand new PDF download charts from Hal Leonard and Alfred, which include great new music from Gordon Goodwin, Alan Baylock, Michele Fernández, Kris Berg, Rick Hirsch, and more.
