SEXTET INSTRUMENTATION

This uptempo swinger presents a rhythmically challenging melody and a unique set of chord changes that are easy to listen to and fun to play once they've been mastered. This piece generates energy with short phrases that begin and end in unusual places throughout the A section and then smoothes out for the bridge only to resume the rhythmically-agitated feel again for the final A. SOLOS: The changes are unusual and will require some study, especially to play at the recorded tempo. However, most chords get two bars, and they are all closely related and easy to hear after a little practice. * Jazz Repertory Transcription Series includes chord voicings, bass lines, drum fills and cued melody lines in rhythm section parts.
