Recorded by John Fedchock's New York Big Band and dedicated to memory of Woody Herman, "The Chopper" is a medium-tempo shuffle in the style of Herman's best swingers. With the spotlight on baritone sax and trombone solos, the chart also features a saxophone soli with flugelhorn lead (a Herman trademark) and a rollicking shout chorus in the true Herman tradition. Alto 1 with optional soprano in part.
