Edition: Jazz Big Band Arrangement with Vocal Soloist and Vocal Group (ATTT)

Description: Swing - Medium Difficult

Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications

Kim Gannon and Walter Kent wrote I'll Be Home for Christmas during World War II as an homage to troops stationed overseas who were longing to come home. Bing Crosby scored a hit with his 1943 recording and thereafter this became a Christmastime favorite. This Dave Wolpe arrangement was recorded by the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1991 and released on the platinum-selling album In the Christmas Mood.

Featuring a female vocal soloist along with a vocal group (ATTT) this chart begins as a vocal feature with light rhythm section accompaniment followed by sax backgrounds for the second A section. Trombones provide support for the last eight bars of the melody before the saxes take over stating the melody with brass providing interjections on plungers. A tenor saxophone solo follows for eight bars before the full ensemble returns to playout the remainder of the tune and setup a key change to Bb. The vocal soloist returns to lead the vocal group through the final chorus of the song.

This publication was prepared using the original parts that were used during the 1991 recording session - this is not a transcription.
