Volume 2 offers material based on the melodic embellishment of scales and chord progressions. These include the embellishment of individual tones of different scales, individual chords within the setting of a key (major and melodic minor), and individual chords that move transiently through implied keys (circle of fifths dominant seventh chord embellishment).

Chord relationships, voice leading, and the send of key are all relevant to the studies in this volume.
