Improvising is easy. Playing something that sounds good is the challenge. If our goal was to “just improvise,” then any sounds we make would be acceptable - anything goes. That however is not the goal. As a jazz musician we must learn to improvise using a common language and improvise within the confines of specific songs.

In this methodology we will isolate our practicing so as to focus on rhythm, melody, phrasing, and form, separately. This will allow us to build solid habits that will then be in place when we begin to put these elements together in our solos.
