The key musical feature of this movement is the continuously playful counterpoint between the two main melody instrument groupings: trumpet and soprano sax versus alto sax and trombone. The melody should feel buoyant and playful, but should also have a sense of urgency and nervousness to it. The use of tambourine over full drum set for parts of the melody should only add to this. Soloists on the original recording are Marsalis on trumpet and Farid Baron on piano.
