Modal harmonically, this tune is in 11/8 with a folk-like melody trading between the two altos. “Lucy the Dog” is titled after a feisty lap dog that looks like a sheep herder’s border collie. It was written for and recorded by FOUR and the Zagreb Saxophone Quartet. Since classical Zagreb quartet’s tenor player is also a jazz musician, the solo is in the Zagreb tenor part. The solo section is in 12/8 for contrast to the 11/8 melody.
