Edition: Jazz Big Band Arrangement

Description: Contemporary - Medium Difficult

Publisher: Walrus Music Publishing

Commissioned by the family of the late Dr. Ed Ceilley for the University of Northern Iowa Jazz Band One, "Medicine Man" is cast in a even 8th, "ECM-ish" groove ala Jack DeJohnette. Featured soloists are alto sax (quasi-Kenny Garrett) and piano. A short middle section featues some very playable woodwind doubles (altos on flute, tenors on clarinet and bari on bass clarinet). There are no real technical challenges, just a few musical ones: vibraphone and guitar are essential colors. Instrumentation: 5 saxes (w/dbls.), 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, and 5 rhythm (v-p-g-b-d). Lead trumpet extends to Eb above the staff
