Although I originally conceived of this chart for publication for high school bands, it has served as our opener for over a decade now. The first name band I ever saw live was the Count Basie New Testament Band. I tried to capture that spirit here. Hopefully you can hear the influences of Benny Carter and Neal Hefti. Don't let the simple riff orientation fool you--there is a lot of musical subtlety to be had in this chart. Solos: Trumpet, Alto Sax.
