As the arrangement's name implies, The Fifth Degree has a harmonic structure largely based around the interval of the perfect fifth. Due to this, the performance has an overall hollow, empty feel to it that makes it stand out compared to other arrangements with similar feels. There are extended solo sections for trombone and trumpet, with both horns eventually improvising in tandem. The post-solo shout chorus features some unorthodox polyrhythms and across-the-beat melodic figures. Be careful to not let this one get too loud too soon! No piano or guitar parts.
