"The Next Phase" is a moody, contemplative contemporary rock arrangement that has a number of emotional and dramatic shifts that occur over its performance. Beginning with a piano solo, the subtle melody eventually gives way to a flugelhorn solo that makes up the majority of the rest of the chart. The ensemble's complexity gradually builds until reaching an intense climax before suddenly dropping off for a brooding final chord. Be careful for the occasional bars of 3/4 that break up the otherwise steady half-time rock feel. The 5th trumpet part is optional and does not need to be covered.
