Edition: JAZZ BIG BAND ARRANGEMENT

Description: BALLAD - MEDIUM DIFFICULT This is a short feature for lead alto. It starts as a ballad with the soloist interweaving figures around a lush brass chorale. Later, the harmonic rhythm is doubled (2 changes to the bar instead of 1) before the rhythm is doubled (to a medium swing tempo.) Within this doubletime swing section, the harmonic rhythm is doubled one more time (mid-phrase... stole that from Ludwig.) Near the end, the original ballad tempo is finally regained. Because of the unique chord progression, each chorus starts a minor third lower. This adds to the searching, yearning quality of the arrangement. This one isn't too difficult although doubles are strongly recommended. The harmonic progression is unique but flows nicely. A juicy feature for your lead alto that also shows off the different sections of the band to advantage. Trumpet high B. Alto, Alto/Fl, Ten/Clar, Ten/Clar, Bari/Bass Clar, 4, 4, Vibes, G, P, B, D. Medium difficult.
