In the words of its moniker, baritone saxophonist David Zapotocky, This piece was penned [as a tribute to my] creative driving skills…at the Reno Jazz Festival. The following year – curiously enough – I wasn’t asked for my services. Too bad! I really wanted to go off-roading! This chart is a fun piece of funk that features a raucous baritone sax line. The piece was written in 2003 and features a twisted melody and alternates between common and 6/8 time. The trumpets are entrusted with quick mute changes and are colored with the soprano saxophone during melodic statements.
