Written for the Felipe Salles' Interconnections Ensemble. Instrumentation includes 5 saxes (2altos, 2 tenors, bari), 4 trumpets (with mutes), 4 trombones (with mutes), guitar, vibraphone, piano, bass, and drum set. This tango-inspired piece features a tenor saxophone cadenza as the piece intro. As the name suggests, the modern tango style is combined with the used of odd meters and jazz, resulting in a 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 3/4 milonga phrasing, and a 4/4, 7/8 tango phrasing. Highly contrapuntal, this piece is a challenge to the brass section and features trombone and tenor saxophone as soloists.
