Edition: Latin Jazz Big Band Arrangement

Description: Mambo - Medium Difficult

Publisher: 3-2 Music

An episodic piece with two chorale-like sections; clave-based melody sections; saxophone soli over a funky 2-3 clave based ostinato (also included in the solo form). A medium-difficult composition due to specific rhythm section parts and range of dynamic variations. "URANTIA" is a mythical name for the Earth. Inspired during a visit to Greece, this piece is an imaginary journey through time from "first light" into "chaos & discovery"; leading to a final chorale & ensemble improv vamp implying the future. Solos: changes for alto 1, tenor 1, trumpet 4, trombone 1, vibes, guitar, piano. Doubles: alto 1 on soprano, trumpets on flugelhorns. Performance time: 10:30+

Ranges:

  • Trumpet: to Eb6
  • Trombone: to B4
