A "Funky Cha", "WHIRLPOOL" is a groove piece with an extended form; a repeated "bridge" section; and a somewhat long "soli" for saxes with brass counterlines; exposed trumpet choir and romping repeat of bridge releasing into a rhythmically intense coda. "WHIRLPOOL" has memorable main melodies and a "Headhunters"- like ostinato groove under the extended soli. Overall, the piece seems to be constantly falling forward into new phrases of increasing tension. A high energy addition to your jazz set.
