APRIL NOTES: We recently released the first of several upcoming exciting new arrangements from Ella Fitzgerald, Paul Weston's arrangement of Blue Skies. This is widely regarded as one of Ella's finest recorded performances. A musical tour-de-force from start to finish, Fitzgerald's unmistakeable vocals shine both in melody and scat improvisation, and Weston's arrangement does a great job of supporting her while never becoming overwhelming. Other than some rangey brass parts, this arrangement is not overly difficult, and would make a great vocal showpiece for a festival or competition. This publication was based on the original set of parts that were used at the 1958 recording session - this is not a transcription.
Another new one is Greg Hopkins's Waltz of the Mushroom Hunters, recorded by the Buddy Rich Big Band on The Roar of '74. This is a kaleidoscopic musical experience that retains its unpredictable excitement from start to finish. Although technically difficult and a serious endurance test for the brass section, it's sure to bring down the house if performed well.
We also recently released a newly re-edited version of Charlie Barnet's signature tune, Skyliner. Other brand new arrangements thus far this month are five more new ones from our friend Tom Kubis, who is in a creative zone these last few months. We also have Paul Murtha's new medium level chart on the very popular Tank! from the Japanese anime television series Cowboy Bebop.
NEW PDF DOWNLOADABLE ARRANGEMENTS NOTES: With the additions of Ella's Blue Skies and Buddy Rich's Waltz of the Mushroom Hunters, we have 17 brand new and newly-available PDF downloadable charts in April.
