This octet arrangement is as much a chamber piece as it is a jazz piece. This chart is chock full of rich harmonies, thick layered independent horn lines, and rhythmically syncopated melodies. It is continually developing, going from straight-eighth 3/4 to a loose swing 4/4. There are 2 great transitional sections, after each solo section, that move thru odd meters and weave angular lines before moving on. The first solo section is for bass clarinet, the second is for trumpet, and both are modal.
