Dave Wolpe's treatment of After You've Gone is structurally simple, but has a number of exciting ensemble moments and can be easily opened up for solos. Starting off over a pedal point, the melody is primarily handled by the sax section, although the brass gets to have some fun as well. The solo section is followed up by a twisting sax soli for half a chorus before the melody recap. The pedal point from the beginning is brought back to set up the ending - a Basie-style piano plink, followed by a warm but strong ensemble chord.
