Edition: Jazz Studio Orchestra Arrangement

Description: Bossa Nova - Medium Difficult

Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications

Between Antonio Carlos Jobim's gentle guitar, Claus Ogerman's delicate arrangement, and Ron Carter's superb bass lines, Batidinha is a master class in simple, musical elegance. Recorded for Jobim's 1967 album Wave, the main source of this arrangement's difficulty stems from the key signature.

The form of the tune can be broken down into two halves. The first half almost doesn't have a melody at all, with the rhythm section laying down a gentle groove underneath a steadily rhythmic guitar solo. The second half features a simple, soaring melody line being carried out by the string section atop the rhythm section. The arrangement is repeated twice, with the melody being broken up between the flutes and strings the second time. The performance ultimately ends with a simple fade out over a vamp.

This publication was based on Claus Ogerman's pencil score; however, the guitar voicings have been transcribed.
