Frank Ferriano, Jr. was a musician, teacher, scholar. He served in the United States Navy Band for ten years, and later attended The Juilliard School of Music on the GI bill. He played trombone and studied with Richard Franco Goldman, Henry Brant, and Vincent Perichetti. Ferriano toured with the Sauter-Finegan big band and the Les and Larry Elgard Orchestras. He earned his Master's degree and Ph.D. from Columbia University Teachers College, while teaching music in the New York State and New Jersey public schools. Ferriano developed the jazz program at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, teaching arranging, music fundamentals, music literature, jazz history, and brass technique, in addition to serving as the director of the university's jazz and brass ensembles. He later arranged for the Capitol City Band and the Madison Jazz Orchestra. Frank Ferriano, Jr. passed away in 2024.
