MAY NOTES: (May 16th Update): Announcing the arrival of Alfred Music's 2025 new issues! The first two are by two of today's best, Alan Baylock and Gordon Goodwin. Alan's Proove Your Groove is a medium difficult funky chart with a groove that is deep and full of harmonic colors start to finish. This is festival material. Gordon's Wise Up is a terrific medium/medium difficult swing-shuffle grove around 150 BPM. This chart is simply fun and hip. Solo space is provided for alto, tenor, bari, trumpet, and trombone with sample solos provided for E-flat, B-flat, trombone, and C instruments, and very flexible. We are extremely pleased to announce our first new Jazz Lines Publications Supersax release in quite a while: Med Flory's arrangement of Neal Hefti's Repetition! Med's adaptation is based on a recording from 1947 that saw Charlie Parker accompanied by a studio orchestra. This arrangement was originally recorded on Supersax's 1973 debut album Supersax Plays Bird, and although it (appropriately) focuses primarily on the sax section, the rest of the band gets some chances to shine as well. Only 3 parts (both tenors and baritone sax) from the 1973 session have been retained over the years. As a result, the two alto sax parts, all brass parts, and all rhythm section parts have been transcribed from the original recording.
