An under-performed standard, My Kinda Love features a cozy melody and whimsical lyrics that are a perfect fit for Nat 'King' Cole's husky bass. Dave Cavanaugh clearly took note of this when crafting this arrangement, which only dials up the warmth even further. This arrangement was written for Cole's live recording at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, NV on January 14, 1960.

Cole takes the spotlight right from the beginning, getting jolted into action by a zippy sax figure before the mood mellows substantially. The ensemble accompaniment for the first time through the melody remains gentle, but not completely passive, with the woodwinds, brass and strings wrapping around each other in lovely fashion. After the melody is performed once, the chart jumps back to the bridge, adopting a rubato tempo before settling back into the original gentle swing feel at measure 39. The melody's ending is tagged, gently receding into a rubato feel one last time.

Cavanaugh originally wrote this as a big band arrangement without strings. He then wrote a separate string score where he arranged the sax section for the string players. We have included all of these parts so that this arrangement may be played with or without string players. The vocal key is Db and there are no saxophone doubles.
