Edition: Jazz Big Band Arrangement

Description: Swing - Medium

Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications

Written in 1961 for the Glenn Miller Orchestra under the direction of Ray McKinley, Deane Kincaide's arrangement of Peg o' My Heart doesn't feature a single note of improvised music, instead opting to feature the band in a traditionally composed setting. Its gentle tempo and rich harmonies make it a great mid-concert piece to give your trumpet section a rest, as well.

The melody is played twice in total. The first time through features the trombone section, in cup mutes, with some gentle responses from the clarinets. The second melody sees the key go up a minor third and is mostly handled by the saxes in typical Miller instrumentation (clarinet, two altos, two tenors). The brass provide some softly prodding plunger-muted accompaniment before the trombones play the final tag before a warmly embracing finale.

This publication was prepared using Deane Kincaide's pencil score and the set of parts from the Glenn Miller Orchestra library.
