The Third Degree is a hard-driving showcase with alternating Latin & swing feels, powerful ensemble exchanges and dense, swinging orchestrations. It features solos for trumpet, tenor sax and trombone. Difficult. Note about the sound sample from John Fedchock: The version of "The Third Degree" I recorded with my band was changed a little bit since the original version of the chart. The opening was just a little different. I took a recording of a college band playing the original version and I edited the opening of that chart with the version my band did a few years later. This mp3 should match the parts, although there is a little difference in the opening head for about 2 1/2 beats in the score only. This sound sample should match close enough for reference.
