Edition: Jazz Little Big Band Arrangement

Description: Swing - Medium

Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications

This bright swing arrangement was written by Gerry Mulligan shortly after he arrived in California in 1952. Gerry originally arranged this for 8 horns with rhythm section: alto sax, tenor sax, baritone sax, 2 trumpets, horn in F, trombone, and tuba. The January 1953 recording was done with just bass and drums for the rhythm section. Sometime later he added a piano part and a second baritone saxophone part that was to be used in place of the tenor saxophone. For this publication we have included both baritone sax parts (and tenor sax) as well as two modifications he made: a 2-bar introduction and an extended ending. Also included are optional trumpet and trombone parts that may be used in place of the horn part. An open solo section is included. This is not a difficult arrangement and the ranges make this playable by less experienced bands.
