WINDS OF CHANGE was composed for the Jazz Education Network Commissions Program, and was premiered at the 2023 J.E.N. Annual Conference. The piece is written in a Latin "Tresillo" style. The eighth note subdivision of 3-3-2 is emblematic of the Tresillo rhythm. If your drummer is a novice to this style, it is possible for them to play a more generic Latin beat and allow the guitar, piano and bass dictate the rhythmic breakdown with their specifically indicated rhythms. Solos are for trumpet and tenor saxophone, but if preferred, the trumpet solo section could function for a piano solo, and the tenor solo section for guitar. If desired, a repeat from measure 74 to 138 can also be added to extend the trumpet solo section.
