After a short, smooth, and legato introduction, the chart moves into a bright jazz-rock feel as arranger Carl Strommen weaves together a tapestry of favorite holiday songs. After the intro, the piece stays in one tempo, allowing it to come together quickly, which makes it an ideal choice for the first holiday concert of a young ensemble.

Program Notes:

After the short rubato introduction with “The 12 Days of Christmas” the chart transitions to an even eighth note feel for “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. You will also recognize some other carols cleverly woven into the mix. There is a short solo section for Trumpet 1 with Sax and Trombone backgrounds that may be cued in and out as needed. There is a suggested written solo, but improvisation is always encouraged.
