Edition: Jazz Big Band Arrangement
Description: Swing - Medium Difficult
Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications
Marion Evans wrote this arrangement of I Get a Kick Out of You for Tony Bennett's 2021 collaboration with Lady Gaga, which resulted in the album Love for Sale. Minus a couple range things in the brass and a tricky key change toward the end, Evans's arrangement is neither too challenging nor too intrusive, opting to provide fairly subtle accompaniment to the two star singers.
Beginning with the song's verse, the two vocalists split the melody with rubato piano accompaniment before settling into a steady medium swing at measure 21. This tempo stays consistent for the rest of the performance, with the melody bouncing between the two unlikely collaborators at various spots. It's important to establish musical continuity between the two singers in order to maintain a sense of melodic unity. The band gets a brief moment in the spotlight at measure 87 before yielding back to the singers a few bars later. Be sure that your ensemble keeps track of the multiple key changes that occur throughout the chart, especially the tricky shift to E major at measure 107.
This publication was prepared from Marion Evans's original pencil score - this is not a transcription. The vocal key modulates from Bb to C to Eb to E.
