Edition: Jazz Big Band Arrangement

Description: Swing - Difficult

Publisher: Jazz at Lincoln Center

This AABA song form is a play on the word "millennium" that was recorded by the Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band in 1957 without piano (except for Mulligan’s first two choruses and spots when he’s not playing) to highlight Mulligan’s penchant for counterpoint. Multiple unison melodies create dense, yet meaningful harmonies, making this tune a gem. The excitement will mostly have to come from the soloists, whether they play alone or collectively. Even though it is a long tune, it is less taxing on the chops because of the range and volume. Learn to play with ease and pace, and this will be an enjoyable tune. Part of the 2024-25 Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program.
